Erect plant
2-3 feet tall flower scapes
Star-shaped lilac flowers are borne in a dense spherical umbel, 4 inches wide.
Late spring.
Strap-shaped basal leaves are 4 inches wide.
Full sun and a very well-drained soil. Root rot can occur in heavy clay and poorly drained soils.
 
  • 'Purple Sensation' - This cultivar has darker purple flowers than the species

This ornamental onion can be used in the perennial border and makes an excellent cut flower which will last 2 weeks.
