Andropogon gerardii
Big Bluestem aka Turkey Foot
North America

A warm-season perennial which is common in the prairies and along roadsides.

The spikelets occur in pair with one being stalked and the other sessile i.e. unstalked. This is similar to these structures in Miscanthus and Tripsacum.

In this species, the stalked spikelets have only male flowers and are nearly as long as the sessile spikelets which contain perfect flowers.
