Large, rounded “herbaceous shrub”
4-6 feet tall by 6 feet wide

The cream colored flowers are very small, ˝ inch across. They are borne in dense spikes making large panicles 12 inches long. Aruncus is dioecious, the male plants having showier flowers than the females.

Early summer
The 2-3 feet long leaves are alternate and pinnately compound. Leaflets are ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 2-4 inches long, doubly serrate. The dark green foliage looks very much like that of an overgrown Astilbe.
 
 
  • var. astilboides - exact miniature of the species except it is only 18-24 inches tall.
  • 'Kneiffii' - The leaflets are very finely cut. The margins are strongly serrated. The overall appearance is that of a giant fern. White flowers. 3 feet tall.
