Densely stoloniferous with low, compact foliage

The fluffy mauve-pink flowers are borne in stiffly narrow branched panicles which rise above the clump foliage. Flowering is indeterminate.
Mid to late summer
Leaves are pinnately compound leaflets are ovate-oblong and doubly-serrate at 2-3 inches long. Foliage is deep green
 
 
  • 'Finale' - Light pink flowers on spikes 15-18 inches tall, midsummer bloom.
  • 'Intermezzo' - Rose pink flowers, 20-24 inches, midsummer bloom.
  • 'Serenade' - Rose-red flowers, 12-16 inches tall, midsummer bloom.
  • var. taquetii - Called the Fall Astilbe due to its late flower season. The cultivar 'Superba' has deep lilac flowers and is 3-4 feet tall.
  • 'Purplelanze' - purple-red flowers.
  • 'Veronica Klose' - Similar to 'Pumila' but the inflorescence is denser and darker pink.
