Clusters of small flowers, less than an inch across
Midsummer into early fall
At the end of the blooming season, the upper leaves turn reddish bronze. Deciduous to semi evergreen.
 
Grows in sun or light shade in well-drained soil.
 
This species is distinguished from similar genera, Limonium and Armeria by its 5 ribbed calyx and the leafy stems which turn bronze to scarlet in the fall.
