Upright, multi-stemmed shrub.
8 to 10 feet tall.
Plants are dioecious. Flowers are greenish-white, borne in an umbel, 1.5 to 2 inches across and are not showy.

Dull, dark green with a rough surface.
Fall color is nonexistent, or a poor yellow-green.
 
 
 
 
 
‘Nana’ grows about 1/2 to 2/3 the size of the species and forms a solid, impenetrable thicket of upright, multispined, grayish stems.
