Upright, open, pyramidal when young, developing a broad, wide-spreading crown.
40-60 feet tall with an equal or greater spread.
Plants are dioecious. Flowers are not showy.
 
Leaves are alternate, simple, 3-6 inches long, elliptic to ovate, with an acuminate tip and serrate margins, lustrous dark green in color, showing latex strands when pulled apart.
Fall color is nonexistent.
 
Stems are olive brown, bloomy, with a chambered pith, exhibiting elastic strands when bark is stripped.
Fruit is capsule-like, with compressed wings, to 1˝ inches long.
