Perennial of rich, deciduous woods, conifer swamps, bogs and fens.
 
Pale yellow and red, bell-shaped, drooping flowers that develop into a hairy looking brown ball of seeds.
 
 
 
 
 
Differs from a close relative, the prairie smoke plant (Geum triflorum) by being larger in size, different flower color and preference for a wet habitat.
