Yellow petal-like structures which are ray flowers encircling the perimeter of the flower head. The yellow central flowers are known as disk flowers. The flower head is surrounded by small leaves called involucral bracts which, in this species, are curved outward (squarrose) and are sticky with a resinous substance. This gives the plant its common name.
