Flowers showy, in terminal racemes, 1-2 feet long, flowers papilionaceous (butterfly-like) and about ¼ inch long.
Early summer.
Leaves long-stalked, petioles 6-12 inches, palmately compound, 9-16 leaflets, lanceolate to oblanceolate, 2-5 inches long, acute, glabrous above and sparsely pubescent below.
