This plant has low clump-like foliage with flowering flower scapes up to 18 inches. Plants are narrow with a 12 inches spread.

The fragrant flowers are 2-4 inches wide, saucer shaped and are orange, yellow, salmon pink, red, or white. The individual flowers are borne on long leafless peduncles. The petals have a crepe paper-like texture.
Spring to early summer. Iceland poppy has a longer blooming season than oriental poppy.
Leaves mostly basal, petioled, pinnately lobed or cleft, 6 inches. The foliage is often hirsute.
 
Short lived perennial. Full sun or partial shade.
  • 'Champagne Bubbles' - Range of bicolor and solid colors including bronze, orange, scarlet and yellow. 12-18 inches tall.
  • ' OregonRainbows' - Some flowers have 2-3 colors. Many blossoms are semidouble. This cultivar useful as a cut flower. 15-20 inches tall.
  • 'Popsicle' - Flowers are 3-4 inches wide and in many colors including rose, pink, yellow, red, orange and apricot.
  • 'Sparkling Bubbles' - 16 inches tall plants with a wide range of colors.
  • 'Summer Breeze' - This cultivar was selected for its long season of bloom.
  • Wonderland Series - 12-14 inches compact plants with large flowers and thick, short stems. There is an orange selection and a mixture containing red, orange, rose, white flowers.
