Strongly pyramidal, with spreading horizontal branches and pendulous branchlets, graceful.
40-60 feet tall with a spread of 25-30 feet
Plants are monoecious. Staminate cones are infrequent and borne axillary, pistillate are reddish pink in color and terminal.
 
Needles are ˝-1 inch long, stiff, straight or curved, rhombic in cross-section, ending in a blunt point, lustrous dark green in color.
 
 
 
Cones are 5-7 inches long
 
 

  • 'Conica' - dense, compact cone of foliage, 25 feet tall and 12 feet in diameter
  • 'Maxwellii' - low, spreading, flat-topped, twice as broad as high
  • 'Nidiformis' - top is often flat, 3 feet tall and 6 feet across
  • 'Pendula' - Weeping form
  • 'Procumbens' - prostrate form with horizontal branches
  • 'Pumila' - dwarf, dense, broad, flat topped almost 3 times as broad as high
  • 'Pygmaca' - very small, dense, conical form about as wide as it is tall
  • 'Pyramidata' - narrow, slender pyramid
  • 'Repens' - low, with procumbent or arching branches
