Conical, becoming broadly ovate with age, medium texture
60-80 feet tall by 45-65 feet wide
 
 
5-8 inches, lobes pointed and variable in outline, dark green with lighter underside
Reddish brown to scarlet in fall
 
Dark gray bark is smooth at first, then becomes furrowed with age
