Alternate, compound pin­nate, 6 to 12” long, 11 to 17 leaflets, 1 1/2 to 4” long, 1/2 to 3/4” wide.
 
Winter buds of the European Mountainash are densely white pubescent while those of the American Mountainash are glabrous or only slightly pubescent
