Pale lilac to purple with a yellow spot borne on 4 to 6 inch long racemes.
June to August on current year's growth
Alternate, compound pinnate,1 to  12” long, 9 to 15 leaflets of uniform size, elliptic-ovate to oblong or oblong­lanceolate, 1 1/2 to 2 1/2” long, to 1 1/4” wide.
 
 
 
2 to 4 inch long pods that are more rounded than those found on W. floribunda or W. sinensis.
 
 
 
The pods are compressed, 2 to 4” long, and glabrous with the seeds more rounded than those of W. f/oil bun da and W. sineri­sis. Tends to be less vigorous in cultivation than the Asiatic species. ‘Nivea’ is a white flowered form. Virginia to Florida and Texas. Introduced 1724. Zone 5 to 9.
