Hosta 'Eleanor J Reath'

Dr. David Reath of Michigan registered this cross of H. 'Frances Williams' × H. 'Sieboldiana' in 1986. It makes a giant size (30 inches high) mound of heavily corrugated leaves with thick substance. Near white flowers bloom atop 34 inch high scapes from mid-June into July.

The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), says that this plant falls into a group in the H. 'Sieboldiana' species and consists of "registered seedlings that have either 'Elegans' or an 'Elegans' sport (e.g. 'Frances Williams', 'Northern Halo', etc.) as a parent. All of these have blue-green foliage and represent the range of 'Elegans' types that can be found."

Similar cultivars include H. 'Gray Cole', H. 'Ryan's Big One', and H. 'Blue Mammoth'.

Named for Dr. Reath's wife.
