Hosta 'Frensham Elderberry Gin'

Registered by June Colley and John Baker of England  in 2020, this fast growing cultivar is a seedling of an unnamed seedling of H. hypoleuca × H. 'Theo's Blue'. It is a large size hosta about 19.5 inches tall by 25 inches wide with dark blue-green foliage. The ovate leaves are moderately rippled, slightly folded, slightly wavy and have a glaucous bloom on top. Its petioles are dark bluish-purple with a glaucous bloom. Near white flowers bloom from late July into August on scapes about 32 inches tall. The bluish purple scapes have creamy yellow bracts surrounding each flower. It does not set seeds.

The registration materials state: "...Tall blue with white backed leathery leaves. Thick bloom so the colour holds well, red legs and slug/snail resistant. Near white flowers are enhanced by the dark scapes and creamy yellow bracts...turns dark blue-green when exposed to bright light and later in the season."
