Hosta 'Ki-no-Kawa'

Originated in Japan, this non-registered cultivar is a sport of H. kikutii caput-avis. In the photograph by Ken-ichi Gonokami in Japan, it appears to be a small to medium size hosta with light yellowish-green foliage that has creamy yellow streaked variegation. All the leaves radiate out from a central axis. A second photo shows a plant with darker green foliage and a small amount of creamy white misted streaked variegation. This may be from later in the growing season.

Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled, A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term -gawa or -kawa as river and the term ki as yellow or gold.
