Hosta 'Lodestar'

This sport of H. 'Sum and Substance' has wavy, cupped leaves and wide yellow margins. It is a medium size (16 inches high) plant that was registered by Van and Shirley Wade of Ohio in 1999. The plant has lavender flowers from late July into August.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "I've seen many green-centered, gold-margined sports out of 'Sum and Substance'...but 'Lodestar' is one of the most unusual and distinct. The original plant has remained relatively small, and it seems unlikely that it will ever reach even half the size of 'Sum and Substance'."

Similar cultivars include H. 'Eagle's Nest'.

Sports include H. 'True North'.
