Hosta 'Mabel-Maria Herweg'

This semi-upright seedling selection from Mildred Seaver of Massachusetts was registered on her behalf by Kevin Walek (Hosta Registrar) in 2009. It is a small size plant that grows to around 8 inches in height with a spread of about 28 inches. This cultivar was registered as being streaked but, if the picture above is true, it may stabilize as a marginal variegation. The leaves are slightly rippled, moderately corrugated, broadly ovate and have a glaucous bloom on top.

This was named for a friend of Mildred's from Dedham, Massachusetts. According to an article by Herweg herself in The Hosta Journal (1985 No. 16), twice, she spells her own name as Mabel-Maria' Herweg. I don't know why there is an apostrophe ' ...but there is. The registration, however, does not include the apostrophe.
