Hosta 'Shirley'

Named for his wife, this Van Wade of Wade and Gatton Nursery (Closed 2019) of Ohio hosta is of unidentified parentage and was registered in 1998. The medium size mound grows to about 15 inches in height with a width of 34 inches. Its leaves are narrowly ovate, wavy and have smooth texture. Pale lavender flowers bloom atop dotted, reddish purple scapes in July followed by viable seeds.

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "Very sensitive to light levels...A very colorful hosta variegated in several shades of green, the colors deepening as the season progresses...Shallow, even ripples along the leaf edge."
