Hosta 'Shirofukurin Oba'

This is a non-registered sport of H. montana from Japan and Kenji Watanabe. It is a large size hosta with green foliage that has a white marginal variegation. Pale lavender flowers bloom in July.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...another "catch-all" cultivar name...many white-edged H. montana sports fall under this name. To avoid confusion, each one needs to be given its own cultivar name."

Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled, A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term shirofukurin or shiro fukurin as white-edge(d) or white-margin(ed) and the term oba or ooba as large leaf, 'Oba Gibōshi' or H. montana.
