Hosta 'Thumbs Up'

Jim Schwarz of Jim's Hostas of Iowa (now owned by Uniquely Hostas of Wisconsin) registered this sport of H. 'Achy Breaky Heart' in 1999. An upright growing, small size plant, it grows to one foot in height and a width of 14 inches. The leaves have an ovate shape, smooth texture and are of average substance. Medium purple flowers bloom in July followed by viable seeds.

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "Site in good light to moderate shade in a container, gravel, or rock garden leaving plenty of space to emphasize the upright habit of the leaves. Slow to moderate growth rate."
