Hosta 'Valentine Lace'

Registered by Maxine Armstrong of Nebraska in 1970, this cultivar is a seedling of H. nakaiana. It forms a large size (23 inches high) mound of heart shaped, slightly corrugated, wavy leaves. Funnel shaped, pale lavender flowers bloom from late June into July.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Though 'Valentine Lace' is listed as a seedling of  H. nakaiana, the pollen parent must have been either H. 'Elegans' or 'Fortunei Gigantea'. Not only is it much larger than H. nakaiana, the number of vein pairs, waviness of the foliage, and flowering habits indicate a much larger pollen parent."
