This species is called the "thick leaved hosta"
according to The Genus Hosta by W. George Schmid (1991) ." Morphology points to interspecific hybrid origin.
It is rarely available and only a few specimens exist in
scientific collections and herbaria."
The Hostapedia by
Mark Zilis (2009) says, "...native to Mt. Ibuki in
Japan and related to
H. montana... large size mound of
thick substanced, green foliage...Throughout my
Japan, I never saw this plant and doubt that any Japanese
I met knew about it."
The species has bright, medium green foliage that has thick
texture and is ovate-oblong in shape. It bears bell-shape white
flowers with purple anthers.
