Hosta 'Golden Guernsey'

A sport of H. 'High Fat Cream', this cultivar was registered by Peter Ruh of Ohio in 1992. It becomes a large size hosta at a height of about 2 feet with a width of around 5 feet. Medium lavender flowers bloom from mid-July into August on 3 foot tall scapes.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...provides a bright splash of color to the shade garden. Like 'Golden Fascination' (out of 'Fascination'), most clumps of 'High Fat Cream' eventually become this gold-leaved cultivar."

An article about H. 'Golden Guernsey' by Warren I. Pollock in The Hosta Journal (1996 Vol. 27 No. 1) states that, "It was know for some time as 'Golden High Fat Cream', but this is an invalid name (at the time)...The 1992 registration was spelled 'Golden Gurnsey', an orthographic error. Ruh requested that change to 'Golden Guernsey'...Guernsey is a Channel Island in the English Channel."
