Hosta 'Island Charm'

This cultivar was originated by George Rasmussen of New York and registered by Alex Malloy of New York in 1997 as a seedling of H. 'Flamboyant'. The small size (10 inches high) mound is of average substance and produces pale purple flower in July.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Under the best of growing conditions,' is land Charm' makes a sensational, small size mound of white-centered foliage. In recent years, however, two of its sports, 'Fantasy Island' and 'Xanadu', have surpassed it in popularity because of a much wider green margin, hence a better growth rate."

An article about H. 'Island Charm' by Akira Horinaka in The Hosta Journal (2006 Vol. 37 No. 1) says,  "I bought 'Island Charm' from a Japanese nursery. Even in November, this hosta keeps a white center with a surrounding narrow green border. I think this is one of the most beautiful patterns I've seen, with a lovely accent of some green lines in the white area."
