Hosta 'Late Jewel'

The background of this cultivar is uncertain but it appears to be either Hosta longipes or Hosta rupifraga. It is a non-registered host that was introduced by Dr. Ralph (Herb) Benedict. The mound is about a foot tall and 30 inches in diameter with smooth textured leaves. Its medium purple flowers bloom in September.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...is listed as a "giant"...but it is not. At maturity it becomes a medium-sized mound..."

These 2010 photos come from the Ralph (Herb) and Dorothy Benedict Hosta Hillside, tours and vendors at the 2010 American Hosta Society National Convention in Minnesota, Wade and Gatton Nursery and Arboretum, Toledo Botanical Garden and the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
