Peter Ruh of Ohio registered this cultivar of unidentified parentage in 1998.
It was originated by
Heinz Klose of
Staudengärtnerei Klose in Germany and named by
Gus Krossa
of Michigan in the 1960's. The medium size (15 inches high) mound of green foliage is topped
by bright purple flowers in August. According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "It is a derivation of
Hosta clausa,
except for the fact that the flowers fully open and it readily
forms seed pods. Pete named this plant for Gus Krossa's hometown
in Michigan." Similar species
include H. clausa normalis.
