Hosta 'Purple Passion'

This cultivar of unidentified parentage was registered by Peter Ruh of Ohio in 2005 on behalf of the originator, Dr. Ralph (Herb) Benedict of Michigan. The dense, medium size mound has leaves that are very narrow on young plants that becomes ovate at maturity of the clump.

The foliage is wavy, dull on the top and shiny on the underside. It bears bright purple flowers in large numbers in July to mid-August. Many of the seed pods are reddish purple in color.

A comment on the Hosta Library says that H. 'Purple Passion' has "deep purple blossoms with bronzed purple scapes and seed pods."

The Hosta Journal, (2006 Vol. 37 No. 2), in an article about flower characteristics stated that this cultivar has "...deep purple blossoms with bronzed purple scapes and seed pods.. ."
