Hosta 'Risky Business'

A sport of H. 'Striptease', this cultivar was registered by Hans Hansen of Minnesota in 2002. It forms a large size mound 19 inches high by 4 feet wide with foliage that is ovate in shape, slightly corrugated and slightly wavy. Pale lavender flowers from mid-July.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "This Tony Avent of Plant Delights Nursery in North Carolina - Hans Hansen collaboration differs from 'Striptease' in having a pure white, rather than gold center."

From The Hosta Journal, (2008 Vol. 39 No 1), "The first sport of 'Striptease' to be commercially available was the white-centered 'Risky Business'...is identical to its parent both in size and in its vigorous growth rate. The wide green leaf margin is also the same, but it surrounds a snow-white center...displays the vibrant white immediately upon emerging in the spring and holds the color until frost."

An article by Warren I. Pollack in The Hosta Journal  (2020 Vol. 51 No. 1) titled Doppelgänger Hostas: Fancy Name for Look-alike Hostas, included a long list of hostas which various hostaphiles, published articles or other sources have indicated "look" the same. Some of these are, in fact, the same plant with two or more different names. Others are hostas that vary in some minor trait which is not immediately discernable to the casual observer such as seasonal color variations, bloom traits, ploidy, etc. So, as Warren mentions, hostaphiles may differ as to the plants listed but then, their opinions are based on visual observations and interpretations.
