Hosta 'Symphony in Blue'

Registered by Bev and Dave Stegeman of Indiana in 2019, this cultivar is a seedling of H. 'Best of Twenty' × {H. 'Riptide' × [(H. 'Riptide' × H. pycnophylla) × H. 'Theo's Blue']}. This medium size hosta grows to about 17 inches in height by 32 inches in width.

The ovate foliage is medium blue-green with a slightly rippled margin, glaucous bloom on top, slightly cupped and slightly corrugated. Its petioles are waxy front and back with dark red dashes on both sides with the red on the back appearing solid. Pale lavender flowers with a wide lavender stripe and a lavender "blush" on the top third of the tepals bloom in September on deep reddish purple scapes 17 to 21 inches tall.

The registration materials state: "...Blue-colored leaves with dark red petioles. Wax on both petioles and scapes make them appear almost black...wax melts from leaves when hit by direct sunlight."
