Bugloss

This is a genus of about 60 species which are native to Northern Africa, Europe and some Pacific Islands. The genus name is from ancient Greek word for the plant as "echion" with the root word "echis" meaning "viper". It could be because of the shape of the seed or a belief that the plant could be used to treat snake bites.
