Star of Bethlehem

This genus consists of around 200 bulbous species distinguished by the usually green striped, white flowers and often winged filaments. The generic name comes from the Greek word, omis, which means bird and gala which means milk referring to the "dove's dung" of Christian Scripture. The specific epithet nutans means drooping which refers to the pendent flowers.
