Douglas Fir, False Hemlock

There is some disagreement among taxonomists regarding the number of species to include in this genus. Most agree that there are two species native to Western North America and up to four species from Eastern Asia. First described by the plant explorer, Dr. Archibald Menzies, this genus was named after another plant explorer, David Douglas. The name means false hemlock in Latin.
