Irish Moss, Pearlwort

There are between 20 and 30 species in this genus. They are native to the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere but may also be found in the mountains nearer the equator in Africa. The genus comes from a word that means "fodder" since these plants were once used as animal feed.
