Needles form almost a solid cushion without the
distinct pectinate arrangement, glossy dark
green above, 2 white bands below, 1/3 to 11/8” long,
slight notch at rather flat apex; the lowest leaves
are the largest and spread horizontally.
Cones cylindrical, 4 to 5” long, green in youth
and pale brown when mature.
