Aruncus dioicus var astilboides
Japanese Goat's Beard
3-7
Japan

Small, rounded “herbaceous shrub”
18-24 inches tall - Miniature version of the species form A. dioicus

The cream, white colored flowers are very small, ˝ inch across. They are borne in dense spikes making panicles a few inches long. Aruncus is dioecious, the male plants having showier flowers than the females. The carpels ripen into a dry fruit called a follicle.

Early summer
The leaves are alternate and pinnately compound. Leaflets are ovate to ovate-lanceolate and doubly serrate. The dark green foliage looks very much like that of Astilbe.
