Tuberous perennial of dry lands and roadsides especially
in areas with limestone base material.
Specific epithet,
bulbocastanum, refers the fact that the
bulbous tubers taste like chestnuts (Castanea), IF PREPARED
PROPERLY. Some related species in this family
are very poisonous so extreme care must be taken
in identifying those that are truly edible.
