	Large leaves compared to other hornbeams. They are 2.5 to 5.5 inches long by 1.5 to 1.75 inches wide. The leaf base is deeply heart shaped.

	Slightly furrowed and scaly.
	Borne in cigar-shaped catkins that are 3 to 5 inches long and 1.5 inches wide.
