Drought resistant, evergreen perennial that forms dense
clumps in evergreen forests
Flowering stem has
many sheathing bracts and bears white to pale
blue flowers lasting only on day similar to
those of daylilies (Hemerocallis).
The seed capsules have 3 locules (seed chambers)
which contain dark brown angular, flattened
seeds.
