Erect plant with a mounded outline
2-3 feet tall
Flowers are borne in terminal cymes with orange-red tinged bracts. The bracts create the noticeable “flower" color. Even after the bracts fade, the mounded herbaceous shrub still graces the garden.
Early summer.
The alternate leaves are sessile, lanceolate, with a pinkish to reddish midrib, 3-4 inches long. Fall color can be yellow to red.
