Glycyrrhiza echinata Spiny Fruited Licorice   Southern Europe Rhizomatous perennial of open woods and rocky places.   Separate from other species within the genus by having a capitate (head-like) inflorescence followed by a cluster of prickly pods.   Odd-pinnate leaves. Distinguished from the licorice in commerce (G. glabra) by the long, reddish brown spines on the fruit.
