Broadly vase-shaped to round-headed, sparingly branched.
30-40 feet tall with a spread of 25-35 feet
Flowers are bright yellow, ½ inch wide, borne in a 1-1½ feet long and wide panicle, very showy.

Leaves are alternate, pinnate or bipinnately compound, to 14 inches long, composed of 7-15 leaflet, each being 1¼-3 inches long, coarsely crenate-serrate.
Fall color is brownish-yellow to yellow.
 
 
Fruit is a papery, bladder-like, 3 valved capsule, 1½-2 inches long, ripening in late September-October
