Rhizomatous perennial of open meadows.
 
Cream-colored flowers in elongated terminal panicles to 1 foot long.
 
Alternate, leaves petioled, cordate at base, about 7 lobes which are sinuate or dentate. Leaves are light green on the upper surface with gray-white pubescence on lower surface. Leaves 6-8 inches long.
 
 
 
Macleaya is generally not recommended for the small garden or as a low maintenance perennial because of its invasive habit.

The genus Macleaya honors Alexander Macleay.
