Dark, evergreen leaves - alternate and compound and the 5-9 leaflets frequently have spines on the margins, somewhat similar to those of a true holly, Ilex opaca.
Bronze in the fall
 
 
Grapelike blue fruits in early summer
 
 
  • 'Compactum' - compact form with very glossy leaves and bronze winter color
     
  • 'Mayban' - dwarf selection taller in habit, having fewer leaflets in each leaf and arranged more closely together on the leaf stalks.
