Strongly rhizomatous perennial of moist fields and prairies.
 
Ray flowers are typically pale violet but there is at least one form with white flowers.
 
Narrow leaves with very fine lacework of veins. This gives the plant its common name of Willow Aster.
 
 
 

The specific epithet, praealtus, means very tall.
