Hybrid Origin

Broad spreading, arching with a rounded top.

Purple-lilac color, in small clusters in 4 to 6 inch long panicles and fragrant.

Leaves in size are half­way between those of the Persian Lilac (S. persica) and the Common Lilac (S. vulgaris) and the same can be said for the habit of the plant.
 
Smaller and more refined than those of S. vulgaris.
 
 
 
 
  • 'Alba' - White flowers
  • 'Saugeana' - lilac-red flowers.
First hybrid lilac on record resulted from a cross of S. laciniata x S. vulgaris and originated from the  Botanic Garden at Rouen, France, about 1777.
