Somewhat vase shaped form.
40 to 60 feet tall.
 
 
Alternate, simple, obovate to oblong, 4 to 8” long, about half as wide. Dark green and densely pubescent on the bottom of the leaf.
 
 
 
Orbicular or obovate samara that is slightly notched at the apex.

Susceptible to Dutch elm disease (DED)

Can become a "weed" tree through self-seeding.

 
“Slippery” developed because of the mucilaginous inner bark which was chewed by the pioneer to quench thirst.
