Hosta 'Andy Taylor'

H. 'August Moon' × H. 'Tardiflora' was the cross that resulted in this cultivar. Tony Avent of Plant Delights Nursery in North Carolina registered this plant in 1993. It is a medium size hosta about 16 inch high by 43 inch wide with smooth textured leaves. Near white flowers are borne in July.

Sheriff Andy Taylor was the key character on The Andy Griffith television show from the early 1960's.

In an article about hybridizing by Tony Avent in The Hosta Journal (1996 Vol. 27 No. 1),  Tony gives the following comments on cultivars he has introduced: "H. 'Andy Taylor' - outstanding dark green matte finish hosta with wonderful pure white flowers...An 'August Moon' x H. 'Tardiflora' cross...will never knock your socks off, but truly wonderful!"

Tony also gives the following comments on cultivars he has introduced: "H. 'Barney Fife' - brother to above (H. 'Andy Taylor')...nearly pink flowers."
